Dragons
Lucas gave a presentation about dragons to his class. He told everyone that they really existed. They’re also known by their other name – ‘grown-ups’. The teacher got angry. Fire energy shot out of her eyes and mouth. ‘You see!’ Lucas shouted. But that only made the teacher angrier. Now steam was puffing from her ears. She didn’t like the presentation at all – and told him to do it again next week.
Now he was walking down the street, looking at the grown-ups around him. Many of them had fire energy coming out of their heads. In some, it was just a flicker. In others, it blazed. He could already see it a little in children who were a bit older than him. ‘Why am I the only one who sees it?’ Lucas wondered.
But then he saw an older man who didn’t have any fire energy at all. He immediately walked up to him. ‘Excuse me, sir, are you not a dragon?’ he asked. ‘A dragon? What do you mean?’ the man replied. Lucas explained. ‘Ah,’ the man said. ‘How sharp you are – not many people can see that. The hard eyes and the racing thoughts. Yes, I stopped doing that a long time ago! Even if everyone else is doing it we don’t have to become dragons, you know. It’s better not to!’ The man looked Lucas deep in the eyes, and asked: ‘There’s an exercise for that, do you want to learn it?’ Lucas nodded. ‘Yes, please!’
